Snow day!

So, I've decided that I'm going to rip out about ten rows to fix the disgusting looking job I've done recently on the ear warmer; it literally looks as though someone else picked up the project and started it again--not the kind of finished product I'm looking for.

On the bright side, however, classes were canceled today! It's a snow day--we have two feet and growing right now. I just finished cleaning the apartment top to bottom, and after I do some more school work, I'm going to get a fresh start on knitting again.

And, it's Mom's birthday today! She's the greatest :)

Update, finally!

Well, I finally got around to trying to fix my project. I ended up making it so there was no hole, but I twisted the yarn pretty badly--I guess I'm called a new knitter for a reason. I only have the decreasing left, so I should be done in another day or so, depending on school work, but it's mangled and odd looking for a few rows--my knitting was very loose as well for some reason.

Oh well; hopefully my next project will come out better!

Speaking of which, the needles I bought in Florida are awful! They are blunt and don't pick up the yarn at all. I was trying to start a scarf project with them while I was at the hospital with my friend Danielle last week, and it was a disaster. I'm going to ask my dad to sharpen them and refinish them so that it won't be a total waste.

Anyway, I'm going to try to get my hands on a camera when my ear warmer is finished; Danielle told me I could use her camera whenever I want, so I think I'm going to take her up on that, since I don't want to wait until I'm home to ask Kaitlyn if she'll let me use her camera.

And, lastly, Aunt Adrienne tagged me in her blog :) I need to list five things that have yet to be revealed in my blog, and I have to tag five other people. I don't have anyone to tag but LeeLee, so I'll tag her. And, here are my five things:
1. I'm a college student double majoring in Adolescent Education and English.
2. I have two roommates--I don't talk to one of them and the other one is one of my best friends.
3. I'm a vegetarian (seven years and counting!).
4. I recently just quit my job at school.
5. I'm 5'4".

Alright, I have to get some school work done.

Woe!

I've been knitting along great on my new project, and I would have estimated that I have only two or so more days until I'm done (at least finished by this weekend), but I went ahead and dropped a stitch; then, when I tried to fix it, I dropped another one.

I tried to find tutorials online for how to fix this kind of thing, but I've come up empty. Does anyone know of any good tutorials that might help? I'll even post some pictures if you want to see what happened!

New Project

So, I think I've decided what I'm going to knit with my new yarn! I was looking around knitty.com (which isn't as user friendly as I first thought it might be), and I found this cute 'coif'--it's an ear-warmer that isn't exactly a hat, but is very funky and cool looking, I think.

I'm going to start working on it tomorrow, most likely. It'll make a good second project and mellow me out for when all of the company arrives for dinner tomorrow night.

First Finished Project, etc.

Alright, I took some pictures of the dish towel I knit and of the yarn I have to use on some future projects. The dish towel was made on size 8 needles (I think--maybe size 9; I don't remember) and with Sugar 'n Cream 100% cotton yarn. It took me three days to finish (hey, I was on vacation; I didn't knit the whole time!), and I think that for my first project, it came out looking pretty good.

I also bought some yarn while in Florida at a shop my aunt Adrienne brought my two cousins and me to (Sit and Knit, or something like that); it's Malabrigo worsted wool yarn, about 216 yards--so soft and pretty! I bought 10 1/2 inch needles to make my sister either a scarf or a hat, though I've yet to pick a pattern that I like.

And, I also have some pictures from the Florida vacation:

First Post

Hello Internets!

This is my first post on my new blogger journal, made for posting my knitting tales. I'm a new knitter, and I've only just completed my first project--a dish towel for my mom. I'll post a picture and details at a later date. Right now I'm only intetested in setting up this journal.

Anyway, I've only learned to knit a few days ago while I was visiting family in Florida; my aunt Adrienne is a fabulous knitter, and she taught the visiting family the basics and gave us all some supplies to start us off. I was even able to visit with her knitting circle, which was a lot of fun, and I got more knitting done on that one night than all of my days there combind--it was a huge success! Maybe I'll be able to find a circle by home in the near future... hehe

Now, I'm off to finish creating this journal!
